Low Tempco Precision Voltage Reference Added To Integtrating Dual Slope Front-End Analog Processor Chip

Sunnyvale, CA September 15, 1999 -- Advanced Linear Devices, Inc., introduces a new family of CMOS Integrating Dual Slope Analog Processors with an on-chip precision voltage reference. Designed to improve overall system performance and measurement accuracy, the standard reference voltage output (Vref) is preset at 1.000V and can be specified with an tolerance of 0.2%, 0.3% or 0.5%. Maximum guaranteed temperature coefficients (Vref tempco) range from 10 to 50ppm/degrees C. Utilizing its EPAD® technology for trimming analog circuits, ALD can supply other application specific voltage outputs or tempcos as required.

Available with resolutions of 16, 17 and 18 bits plus sign bit and overrange bit, the ALD500R, 500RA and 500RAU features low linearity errors typically 0.001% full scale, 6mW total power dissipation, 2pA input current at 0V, +/- 3.5V input signal range, and a 1µs fast zero-crossing comparator. Conversion speed can be regulated by an external microprocessor under software control or by utilizing fixed logic digital inputs. They are ideally suited for a variety of high accuracy line powered and portable digital multimeter applications requiring 4 1/2 to 5 1/2 digit plus sign measurement resolution.

Applications for the ALD500R A/D Converter chips include precision sensor and scientific measurement add-on modules and boards for PC based systems. Also, PCMCIA lap top computer add-on precision multimeters, battery operated DVMs with on-board microcontroller, RTD precision temperature sensing, medical grade electronic equipment, and other custom ASIC based systems which demand low cost, low noise integrating analog measurement with resolution of up to +/- 6 digits.

Prices start at $ 2.36 US in 10k pcs for standard ALD500R 16-bit devices to $3.09 for the "RAU" 18-bit grade. Industrial and MIL temperature grade devices are also available. Standard packaging options includes 20-pin plastic DIP, CDIP, QSOP and small outline SOIC. Evaluation quantities are available from stock.
